Newegg has the Logitech Harmony 659 Advanced Universal Remote for $40 with free shipping. It allows you program a single remote to replace almost every other remote, with activity based macros such as "Watch DVD" in a single button.

  • Display Screen LCD 84x48, 2 MB non-volatile flash memory

It is an older remote but works well. I have it for number of years and it hasn't yet let me down. Great wife acceptance factor once you replace 5 remotes with one. LCD display is basic and newer models are a lot nicer though. Still worth $40 as a real universal remote.

$40? Can't pass it up. It's not the top of the line model, but once it is set up it may save you from having to shuffle between remotes.
Pros: Cheap, backlight, can program on computer, macros.
Cons: May eat thru batteries (use rechargeable batteries), DVR/DVD buttons on bottom of remote.

That's a great price for a Harmony Remote. If I didn't already own one, I'd buy this right away. Since it's a refurb, make sure you try it out quickly, so you don't lose Newegg support for any problems.

Harmony remotes are just about the best you can get, but you do have to take the time to program them. They had a refurb 670 for the same price not too long ago. Put in some Eneloops and they'll last for months; I prefer regular AAA-format batteries to built-ins.

I agree on the comment above. I just bought Eneloop batteries from Sam's Club ($20 for 8 batteries, adapters, and charger) after reading some good reviews. They seem to be pretty powerful and hold their charge well. I also recommend the La Crosse BC-9009 battery charger from Amazon.
