The hour glass shape looks cool but it's not as functional as you would think. Get the Harmony One if you can afford it or at least a 550.

I got a refurb of this model. So far, works great (even works with my Digital TV converter box and NetGear MP101 MP3 streaming music player).

Why are there soooo many refurbs of Logitech remotes? I've considered getting one but the number of refurbs worries me a little

Im guessing it has something to do with the fact that these remotes are not like a normal universal remote, and are much more complex. I bet people return these a lot because they can not figure them out. I see Best Buy selling these a lot with high end tv systems and telling people of all the features, then when they can't figure it out, they return it without the packaging.. Best Buy returns it, logitech refurbishes it. It's not necessarily a sign of bad quality so much as possibly a sign of stupid users. When I worked retail we got a lot of returns on anything that was not reaaally easy to use.

What #4 said. A majority of people who buy them are rodeo cowboy. Then again, I've had 2 lemons from Logitech (550 bought new, and the unit they sent me to replace it (refurb)). Both light up at random times (even with glow fully disabled). That being said, I jumped on one of the refurbed 670's from Ammozon and it seems fine.

I agree with #4 and #5. Logitech has made great strides in making these user friendly but some people will just never understand it. The ability to goto their website and add your devices to the remote is awesome.

This remote works great in the back bedroom on my TV with a converter box and nothing more. Actually you can do a complex setup with it. The only thing lacking is some of the newer DVR functions and a separate skip and FF key (however these can be programmed as soft keys or mapped to keys that are not used in a particular activity.

What do these do that the Sony RM-AX1400 doesn't do? The Sonys are only $20 new on ebay. I've got my Sony operating everything I own and that's a lot of stuff. It's PC set up too. The only disadvantage is you need the original remote to get all functions. I have all my remotes so that isn't a problem for me but could be for other people. I love how every key can be a macro with many different functions including delays where needed. I've got at least 10 macros programmed into the Sony.

I am an T consultant capable of making and supporting untold amounts of electronic components etc. I spent 4 hours trying to make this work with my reciever Sony model # HT-DDW700 and DVD player Sony model# DVP-NS55P. I downloaded the latest software off the Sony Bird Turd site, did everything exactly according to the manual and updated on-line intructions.(RTFM) Supposedly you can program a button (TV) to turn on your tv and receiver without having to toggle thru various remotes to get to where you want on the equipment. IT DOES NOT WORK! I went on-line and chatted with some monkey who barley could type in English who refered me to a hotline number where I also spoke to someone who could barley speak english let alone assist me with a technical issue. My time would have been better spent trying to exchange flaming Sony battery's for their laptops....

I've had my refurbished 670 for about 3 years with no problems. It took about 30-45 mins to get it just right.

I have a 520 and I love it, but it did take some time to get it to work just right. I also bought it new, and the new remote was a complete dud, and they sent me a replacement which was a refurb. That one works perfectly, but I'd have to say it took 2 to 3 hours to program everything just right. The default delays for my TV were wrong, so it didn't always work right when it needed to turn on the TV and then change some setting on the TV, as it didn't wait long enough for the TV to turn on.

On the topic of refurbs, I'll note that when my new 520 was broken, they didn't have me send it in, they just deactivated it, and mailed me a new one. Once it's deactivated, I cannot update the mapping on-line. So if that is standard practice, then not a lot of complete junk will end up being sent out to others as refurbs.

I have three 620's (basically same as 670's) for about 3 years now. Best remotes on the market. Never had one go bad; they seem to last forever. I agree that most "refurbs" are returns from ppl who can't figure out how to program them. It's not hard, but it's not a 5 minute job either. If you take the time to learn how to program them, you'll find that Logitech remotes are the best out there.
