anyone have one and want to share? does it really work as advertised? what about battery life?
I have the 880 (which I'd recommend) that I got for $100 but you can get refurbs on amazon (when available) for $75. I love mine, would never buy another kind than these programmable logitech. I typically leave mine off the charger for more than 2 weeks before needing to recharge, then it just takes overnight. If you can place the docking station next to your sofa, then no need to even worry.
I have the 628, so a "low-end" version by comparison. It has no charger, so I use recargeable batteries instead and they last a few months, which works fine for me.
It really is the best remote ever and does everything. I have HD Cable Box, Xbox 360, Upscaling DVD and home hteater sound plugged into an old 1080i CRT. Its a complicatred setup with some old equipment, but he Harmony handles it all fine. At one point I had to email Logitech becasue I needed to make some adjustments, they made them for me in a day; the next time I synced the remote, presto: fixed. I might buy a nicer version than the 628, but will never go to another brand. Even my parents can use it.
I have the 680 and other than a couple build quality issues, it's the best remote i've ever owned.
I have the 670 listed. I tried the 880 but my wife and younger kids didn't like the buttons on it (buttons were smaller). I found the 670 almost perfect. It setup easily, I tweaked it a couple of times, via USB, and then have been using it about 3 years. Alkaline batteries last several months. Previously we had a more "professional" universal remote that was tricky to program; this Harmony 670 is EASY to program via the USB and Harmony website. NOTE: USE the HELP button(s)! They really are VERY helpful. Push "help", follow the directions, it never fails to "fix" unsyncronized equipment. My wife and kids can now use the help button as well. We are using a DVD, STB, Receiver, CD Player & TV.
$105 is a prety good price, the $20 rebate makes it nearly the cost of a refurb.
I have two of these. Battery life is Great! Usually 2 months on our main TV one that gets daily use.
The buttons are perfect, oldest one is about 18 months and they have not worn down at all.
Just a note: the 2nd one I purchased was refurb from ebay and was quite a bit cheaper than this one. I didn't see a difference in the device at all (it appeared to be brand new).
thanks for the info all. very specific question but I am curious because this claims 1 touch operation.
If you want to control the volume on an AVR (for example when watching a DVD), and also turn down the volume on the actual TV, do you have to push the button that controls the AVR, turn up the volume, then push the button that controls the TV and then turn down the volume, then back to the AVR button to control the AVR?
OR is there really one button that when you press, it turns on all your "movie" components at the same time, and there are separate buttons that control the TV, DVD, AVR without having to change the "mode" of the remote from one component to another? (hope the question is clear)
i heard you could get this at the "Beyond" section of Bed, bath, and beyond. then you can fast forward through all my mom's ramblings.
To: cheapstuff; I'm not entirely sure that I understand your question, but I'll take a shot at it. The Harmony remote can be programmed to specify which device you wish to control the volume on, either the AVR or the TV. (I'm assuming by "AVR" you mean Audio Video Receiver?) I'm not sure why you would want the volume of both at the same time? For example: my TV speakers are turned "off" (or on 0 volume), we only use the AVR for the volume control. (unless your AVR is piping music to sources other than your TV?)
The only way you can control volume on two seperate devices is by programming another button on the Harmony remote, which is certainly a possibilty. I've not done it, but perhaps this site will give you another perspective:

I've not used the Harmony Tech Support, but know a couple of folks who have. They are the type that wants to do more customizing than I find necessary for our use. I have found by perusing the Harmony forums that they are informative.
If I can help further send me a private message and we can exchange eMail addresses, etc.

I got a couple of these for my family members for xmas from Costco, setup was really quite simple via usb/computer. I'd get one for myself or the 770.
I'm still rocking the 520 from years ago. No complaints
Thanks #9. I'll check out the link.
