My favorite remote. Once you use this, you'll understand why. You push one button for "watch DVD", for instance, which turns on TV, DVD player, stereo, mutes TV, sets receiver to correct input and output, and boom -- you're done. One button... and there are soft buttons that you can set up for any task you need to do.

I didn't believe these things could do what they advertise until I saw one in action at a home theatre store the other day. It's amazing. I'm holding off until I can find one in the $50 range, though.

Hate this! Loved it at first, but it has so many minor annoyances that I have not been able to overcome after many hours with the software. My components all have discrete on/off codes, but this remote insists on using the toggle power codes for them. This means if you have a component on (let's say you used another remote) then you press one of the activity buttons, it turns it off. And that's just the beginning!

If you don't mind giving up some control, though, and just want a remote that does *almost* everything *almost* right *almost* the first try, then this is for you.

#3 - You can create custom devices, and the remote can learn from other remotes. Additionally, you can customize most everything if you dig enough into the advanced settings (Logitech's system isn't logically arranged IMHO). In any case, you should be able to make the remote issue the commands you want.

But then again, why bother? Why not just use the Harmony remote for everything so your devices don't get out of sync? If you need special functions from your other remotes, you can map them to an unlimited number of soft buttons on the Harmony.

      #3, you're doin it wrong.

If you are using this remote sometimes and using your other remotes sometimes, whats the point anyways? The point of this remote is to only have 1 on the coffee table and not use the others.

Of course this remote won't ever be able to determine what you've done via other remotes instead of using thsi one.

Absolutely love the Harmony line of remotes. They are a bit more expensive than some of the other 'universal' remotes, but this is way more than that. I have 2 of the 550's. Did take a little while to get everything set up the way I wanted. The wizard is helpful for the basics, but if you want to modify some of the timings and issues described by #3, then you have to go into the advanced settings. The software is pretty easy to use and just connects to your computer via a usb cable.

My 1 remote now controls all devices in my living room - Samsung DLP TV, cable box, Onkyo HT System, Samsung DVD player, XBox 360 including HD-DVD player, Wii, and even my lighting/ceiling fan and air conditioner...

More than one person in the room = more than one remote in my house.

I had a universal remote at my parents house once.

Too bad it was just collecting dust since my mom does not know how to use a remote.

I bought the 520 and at first didn't think that it could do everything I want (needed to keep cable box and receiver on), but was pleasantly surprised. I even set it up with a special activity to "Power Down" by muting the AV receiver and turning off the tv. Also am controlling my fan with it. Nice product. However, doesn't it seem like all Logitech products have weird body construction? They creak when you squeeze them, and I can flex my Logitech keyboards.

This sounds too good to be true but at $85 its a bit pricey for a remote. I guess I need to see it in action to be converted.

What do you do when your DVD player and TV (or whatever) have conflicting codes?

If I'm playing a DVD in the player I have to block it's sensor else when I adjust volume on the TV, chaos ensues.

#9 buy multiple harmony remotes. #3 I could setup my devices to have different power on and power off codes, perhaps harmony support can help you. Oh btw the tech help for this remote is pretty impressive, Logitech must realize its difficult to setup the remote. But once its setup, its so cool to hit a couple buttons and see your entertainment center come to life. Great for guests who have no idea how to turn your system on. Just tell them to hit the activity button and then just select what activity they wanna do.
