I believe this remote's keys are NOT backlit
Can I control my wife with this?
#1, the keys ARE in fact backlit.
#2 depends, is my mom High Definition?
Deals can be found from time to time on this for $80 ARB.. That's what I paid. It's the best remote I have ever used. Yes the keys are back lit. I would change some of the key placements since it is not ideal for one hand DVRing, and RF would be nice. Yes there is an outrageously expensive version with RF but give me a break. When you can get a new replacement IR/RF dish DVR remote for $10 on fleabay it tells you what the RF part costs to add. Paying more than $100 for a remote is stupid unless it can do what #2 asks for.
Forget my mom, can it control 21 year old hotties?
i love the harmony line of remotes. i sold my 880 and upgraded to the 890. the RF feature difference sounds insignificant, but it's very convenient to control the stereo from anywhere in the house.
i believe i ended up with the 890 for $149 AR
i tried using these harmony remotes- ended up really not liking it- the remote has no idea what status the tv is in. I have/use the sleep timer on my tv- and once it turns off, the remote has no idea. I'll wait until they come up with a way for the tv/remote to talk to one another.
#8 sleep timer = for noobs.
Actually, this is $84 if you use live cashback and add this to your running Logitech 10% rebate!

#8, the simple workaround is to not use the macro function for the times when you are using the sleep timer.
There's some brand of remote that monitors the power status of your TV or A/V devices but you're talking about hundreds and hundreds of dollars to buy into a system like that.
Instead, just go into the "device" section and control your TV like a regular remote.
Agree with #8. I felt it more convenient to use the TV remote than using one of these because going into menu selecting device is tedious if you haven't selected "activity" initially.
I guess the uselfulness is dependent on your setup. I have this remote and love it. Before, I had to pick up 3 remotes to watch TV (TV, receiver, cable box). Then I have to use different remotes to change channels than to change volumes.
Even if you have to select the device to change a missed setting, it's not much more work than if you had to pick up 3 remotes to turn it on in the first place.
But if you just use your TV without peripherals to watch TV etc, then you really don't need this remote.
I got one of these off of Amazon for $100 no rebate. It is great. I have a Plasma with an HDMI splitter for the DVD/VCR Recorder and the cable box and it switches the the splitter and stereo receiver to the right input. My wife was unable to watch DVDs before but now she rarely has any trouble. the only issue I've had is that, yes it has to remember where everything is and once in a while someone will not keep the remote pointed properly when shutting down so one device gets out of synch. But all you have to do is turn the device on and everything is back in order.
Or press the help button. It will cycle through all the previous codes based on the last command you tried to execute. It also asks a series of questions to figure out which one was skipped.
I also agree with #13 - If all you have is a single TV and DVD player, these are way overkill. Just use the two remotes and you'll be fine. I have a TV, cable box, Xbox 360 and A/V receiver that mine works with great.
