Great remote. The software is garbage though. I can't setup an HTPC and have it control my TV as the main sound source. I want to break it.

#1, you must be doin' it wrong. I have two harmonies and have no trouble.

When you setup an activity, it asks "What device controls the volume?" and you can select reciever, htpc, TV, etc.

Yes #1, you are doing it wrong. Call them and ask for help. This model does not do RF. It is IR only. This is cheaper because they came out with the Harmony One, which is the newest 880.

I've had my HTPC set up with my Harmony 880 for over 2 years without a problem. If you can't figure out how to get it working, go over to AVSforum and look for the 880 thread and ask those knowledgeable people. Otherwise try calling Harmony support and get a tech to walk you through the proper setup.

Over the years the software has definitely had it's share of problems and quirks, but it is still one of the best remotes for what it can do when you know how to use it!

Never had the charger problem with my original remote either, still going strong with daily use. People suggest that the 880 is cheaply made and breaks easily ... I've had the exact opposite experience with it!

I have an 880. Once you setup the software on your computer, a copy of the settings are stored on Logitech's server and the techs can access them just as you can. Phone support for initial setup issues was excellent.

Software still sucks. The initial set up takes five or ten minutes. The tweaking through their interfaces after that takes hours. Oh, and a macro with more than five steps? How about you run those two macros as part of the activity configuration too. Doesn't want to do that either. For all of my activities I'd like to have the same second screen with the buttons to change my receiver mode. So I need to set up the same thing four times ... the list goes on

I have one and paid less than $100 around Christmas time. More than $100 is too much for a remote no matter how good it is. Had no problem with the software or durability problems. Does a fair job of initial setup based on device model numbers, then have to spend some time tweaking it. Can do just about anything if you take the time to program it. Only complaints are no RF and button layout isn't the best for DVR users. Harmony is the baconnaise and would recommend it to others.

The 890 has RF but costs a lot more.

I agree that the software is very sluggish but ultimately works.

Great concept works fine but the buttons on the remote leave a lot to be desired. same place had it for $100 just a couple of weeks ago.

As previous folks have said, the remote can be extremely sluggish for some items, such as TiVo boxes.
On the plus side, the remote is incredibly durable considering the abuse my kid has given it as well as the number of times it's taken 4ft falls on to my hardwood floors.
