Even though there is free shipping the tax kind of kills this deal. Brought it up to 140 and change for delivery in NY

I use this remote to replace my TV remote, cable box remote, dvd changer remote, receiver remote, home theater computer remote, and it even controls the lights in my house. It was well worth the $130.

Let me see...why is this worth it. After having owned the 880 for about 3 years now, let me see...

      1) Super easy to run an entire home theater system with just one button for the activity.
      2) EXTREMELY high wife approval factor (WAF).
      3) Upgrades/updates to accomodate new components.

What else do you need? Trust me, there is nothing out there comparable to this for anywhere near the price. With you cheap $20 universal remote, half the time you're fumbling around pressing device buttoms to change some of the main remote button functionality, nothing ever works quite the way it's supposed to, and the wife gets fed up trying to make everything work.

In my household, you can show up, pick up this remote and simply press one button that says "watch TV." It takes care of turning on my amp, tv, and hd-dvr receiver, and putting all in the right modes to enjoy tv. All the buttons on the remote are ready to work for the right components. Want to play my Xbox 360? Just press "Activity" and press "Play Xbox" and a few seconds later you're there. No worrying about the fact that my Xbox runs on the PC/VGA input of the TV, or switching the amp over for the audio, or even turning off the hd-dvr receiver, since all that is taken care of for you.

There are always whiners about the Harmony remote prices, and none of you will ever get a clue to buy one of these and try it out for up to 30 days before returning it to the local store. Chances are you wouldn't return it unless you were simply buying the remote again through a better deal, like this one.

So you can configure multiple functions to one button press, that's a neat feature if you have many devices

      Doesn't everybody have multiple devices?

And yes, you've gotten the point of this remote: You don't grab your universal remote and click 'tv' to turn it on and change the input, and then click 'stereo' to turn it on and change the input source and output and volume, and then click 'dvd' to turn your dvd player on and ....

Nope... You click a button called "watch DVD" and it does all those things for you... and then the volume controls the receiver, while the pause controls the dvd player, etc.

Oh, I don't know... how much is your time worth learning and fumbling with six different remotes, or one "universal" remote that never quite does what it's expected to?

#8 beat me to the comment... this device is well worth the price of $130. Hell, it's well worth the retail price of $299 or whatever it is. Hands down, this is economical compared to what else is out there and is more complex to deal with. The fact that it is rechargeable and has a charging base even saves you money on AA's for the half dozen single remotes some Neanderthal might prefer to use to "save money". Heck, if you have a home theater (even a beginner one) and you have HD anything, you need this remote.

If everyone was well organized you wouldn't run into this problem...but yeah remotes like this cost a lot because of the fact that it can do a lot of things with a push of a button. Think of it like the movie "CLICK".....haha jk, i wish it can do the same thing....

I love this remote - it just knows everything about all devices at market, the only downside - "play" button fell off, and it feels pretty cheap and unreliable.

#12, I don't think a lot of people have a lot of devices where a universal remote like this would be useful. If you had a setup of a TV and a dvd player and a cable box, it's not too bad to use the original 3 remotes to click on. If you had a lot more devices on top of that let's say 5+ then the value of the remote is more worthwhile.

I'd spend a bit more and get the 890 - it has an RF to IR repeater so you can hide all your stuff in a cabinet - and it will also control Z-wave lighting controls so when you push "Watch a movie" the lights in the room dim automatically.

I have the 890 and LOVE it. Considering everything I have in my home set-up and my wife can click on one button makes it worth the money and more.
