In some ways I like the minimalistic Dell-like styling of the keyboard, and it trumps the S510 keyboard by taking AA instead of AAA batteries to extend runtime, although one of the highlights of the S510 keyboard was it was one of Logitech's slickest looking until you get into the expensive diNovo series and whatever that other new model is.
This mouse is like a squashed and button sculpted version of the S510's LX(5?), which may be an ergonomic improvement as well as more accurate due to being a laser mouse instead of that invisible light crap they tried to pimp for awhile while doesn't track well at all on less than optimal surfaces.
Overall the LX710 seems more usable but the S520 looks more modern. Given the more minimalistic design on S520, I wonder if it's narrow enough to chuck into a 17" laptop bag, that'd be handy. My LX710 isn't narrow enough to do that, though the EX110 barely fits but it's a step below any of those already mentioned and has the undesirable corded type wireless receiver base, not to mention the worst mouse of the bunch except for being shaped better than the S510 set's mouse.
I wish logitech would let people save a buck mixing and matching the mouse and keyboard combo they want and have them both run off the same receiver. It'd also be nice if the mouse had a mini USB connector on the front of it so when my NiMH batteries get low I could just plug a USB cable in for a few hours and keep using it without skipping a beat. same for keyboard come to think of it, or if they'd release all their sets with a bluetooth option that'd be all the better.
I guess they don't want to give customers all they want, let alone do so at a reasonable price, or else we might not buy more products from them? If they don't integrate such features soon it'll be too tempting to go with another brand, there's no reason why we should se... [Truncated]
I'M WAITING FOR BLACK FRIDAY!
#1 - you've got some good ideas
#1 you can mix and match, to an extent. If the tech is the same and there's a connect button, you should be able to use one receiver and interchange equipment. I've been able to use one receiver to test my s510 mouse and keyboard set alongside my friend's dinovo (RF) set
like the clean and simple look. price is pretty good too! hmm...
Thanks #1 for the info I was wondering about the LX710
great for those that don't own a computer chair and stays in bed all day.
Being able to do that is probably due to the LX(5?) mouse being multi-compatible, in general you have to be far more picky about the hardware to have it be compatible or just hope for random luck. For example, my EX110 is compatible with my S510, but not LX710. LX710 has longer range than the other two, so how many USB dongles is reasonable? I want to buy as many Logitech peripherals as desired and have any and all non-corded USB dongles work with all of them. Proprietary non-reusable and non-compatibleness is soon going to be an important factor, right now it seems like bluetooth will either come down in price (for the peripherals) or be replaced by wireless USB.
Logitech has the means to meet customer desires, or be replaced if they don't. No more "why is such a basic thing lacking", they and MS have to do better if they want to stay ahead of the game, and they'll have to do it at current price levels not the dinovo farce they hoped would catch on.
#7, your mom won't fit in the computer chair, even if I'm not excited.
