Logitech has the Logitech Transporter SE: Network Music Player for $1300 - $300 off with coupon code logi_tse_10512 [Exp 10/8] = $1000 with free shipping. Features dual fluorescent displays, backlit infrared remote, support for rack mount brackets, Ethernet/Wi-Fi and 120db dynamic range.
You obviously have no idea what this is then. A very high quality DAC and streamer. It is unfortunate that the whole Squeezebox line has been discontinued. I would watch for these on EBay going up, especially the Touch, which is a beautiful peice of gear. Nothing like it anywhere near the prIce
#2 - Shouldn't you choose a receiver to be your high quality DAC? If not, that high quality conversion is going to be degraded by the analog connection to the receiver.
My receiver can stream off of my server (or smartphone, or USB stick) so I have no need for this. Maybe this is for the old farts that have tens of thousands of dollars tied into their AV rack and they want something to access their iTunes collection besides plugging their iPhone in?
In addition, it can't do 192Khz sampling - which is the standard for HD audio. It can do 802.11 G wireless, but not N. It can do 10/100 ethernet, but not gigE. My receiver hat at least as a good of a DAC - same s/n of 120db.
This is a $150 piece of AV hardware (including the case). It might have been bleeding edge 6-8 years ago, but it is ho-hum right now. If you spend $400+ on a receiver you will get all of the same features - plus have a receiver/amplifier.
Don't forget it is Logitech Transporter and will transport you to another galaxy for $1000, the price of this trip which is quite cheap comparing $1 million charged by Spaceship 1 to take you to outer earth orbit and back.
I'm not sure I would buy something like this for $100, let alone $1000.
