I used to watch those reruns all the time. Although I didn't think the movie was that good, and I've never heard MASH described as a drama (it had a laugh track didn't it?). Unless maybe Alan Alda said it towards the end of the series.

Yea, all that death and such was not dramatic at all. Pure humor - I laugh at dead people.

When you consider the times and what was happen in our county the show was ground breaking and was what every show still today take there queues from. You miss the point if you didn't see the drama (pain) and the use of the comedic folly that permitted them to mask what the characters went through at every moment.
As to the laugh track that was never ment to be part of the shows writers, director intent, but CBS thought it would be to dry and melancholic for the US prime time and insisted. While many other markets ran without it. It be cool to have the option on this DVD like turn off the closed captions. When the laugh track is pulled the dramatic side it clearly evident.

Dustin Hoffman? I know of no episodes with him; however one of the main writers Larry Gelbart who die last month went on to write Tootsie.

And I never liked the Manic Street Preachers remake/mix of “Suicide is Painless” it's a melody that can't be rationalized or modernized for the times.

M*A*S*H had it all: Babes, booze, guns and laughs.

Of course, it all went downhill after the first few seasons (pretty much after the third "Flagg" episode).
