why would anyone buy this over a dell studio 14z when a machine with faster specs (except no optical)and windows 7 is like $300 cheaper? mac vs. pc i guess, but getting ripped off is just no fun. yeah i know ... no viruses ... one piece of aluminum...whatever

The "no viruses" on Macs thing is the product of a creative marketing campaign. A hacker was quoted at this year's Black Hat saying that "There is no magic fairy dust protecting Macs," and that if the malware community shifted its focus that the Macs would prove to be an easy target.

I'm a PC/Windows guy myself but this isn't a horrible price. The screen is too burp small (I've used this very laptop. It's really annoying for daily applications) but a laptop with a discreet graphics card is not cheap.

Agreed #2. Most hacker don't want to waste their time with the Mac OS since they are such a small percentage of the overall number of computers that are in use. If you flipped the PC/MAC user percentages we would see the OSX just as vulnerable as Windows to malware and viral attacks.

The Geforce 9400m is not a discrete graphics solution. Chalk it up to Nvidia to devise a naming scheme to confuse you.

The 13.3" Macs do not in fact come with an option for discrete graphics.

Yeah, I just assumed as much - that Macs were a small percentage of the population and thus not a large target. I guess either way they get fewer viruses (viri?). I just don't see how the small cosmetic edge one gets with Mac is worth the large price difference.

My wife has a MacBook Pro, and whoever designed it seemingly didn't try it out afterward. The edge where your palms rest is very sharp-edged, causing a crease in my palms. I get the urge to run a metal file along it to round it off a bit.
