Apple Store has the refurbished MacBook Air for $999 with free shipping. A savings of $800 compared to new. "There are two kinds of people: those who value elegance, simplicity and beauty, and those who don't. You'll never convince either group to change their minds; it's like a religious war." -David Pogue

80GB PATA HD and no optical drive. If this only had a modem it would be complete!

      Whatever.

I appreciate art, and form, and beauty. But I also don't print money in my basement, so price is a factor. If the Air was only 20-30% overpriced I might buy one, because it is a nice design. But it costs a lot more than that, so I am not one of their customers. That, and all the software I use I only have licenses for PC.

My son needs to get a mac for his college major. Video editing and so forth. I cringe at the thought of spending the money on one of these things.

How weird to include the Pogue quote in the description. Was that an attempt to start an all-out melee in the forum between Apple fan-boys (oops) and those of us who don't live the "beauty at any price-point" lifestyle?

No, I think that was to prevent it. "You'll never convince either group..." sounds more like a plea of "don't bother trying" rather than an attempt to start a flame war...but...those who want to see a fight-starter in everything will see it everywhere.

I actually own one of these and it's great for what i need it to do. It's made for a niche market. I prefer it over my netbook in terms of portability and reliability. Your not going to get a 1000$ gaming rig out of this, but your gaming rig also isnt as light and portable as this.

If you have a need one of these, you probably already own it.

Hey, thin is "in". Find me a WinPC that is this thin and costs substantially less. This is like a netbook for rich people.

Anyone who makes an anti-Mac, or anti-Apple comment should be immediately OINKED. It's really pathetic how these jealous haters constantly post their lies and vitriol.

Why not get a Samsung NC20 w/ 1.3+ Via Nano, 2gb ram, 160gb, 12" lcd for almost exactly half the price?

slower, but about as small and as light and seems much less likely to fall apart on you

Sorry David Pogue. While I do value elegance, simplicity and beauty, I just happen to value common sense and the thought of not getting fleeced a little bit more.

$800 off of new price is misleading. This is a discontinued model that is selling at this price at several places. People should know that this first generation model has processor overheating issues.

seems that the more appropriate quote would be "A fool and his money are soon easily parted."
