Ben you should post this as a refurb.
yeah. I'm not a big fan of Magellan but I was going to jump all over this anyway until I saw that it was a REFURB on buy.com's site. Bummer. Still not a bad deal but I'll pass on refurbs.
Beware of Magellan products. I had to return two Roadmate 700s due to it being defective... won't work when there is an overcast. Be very careful!
I picked up one of these on eBay for $330 with shipping and have been playing with it for a few weeks. It works OK, but the software
is not very feature rich. The MP3 player won't play more than one
song unless you create a playlist, and won't work while navigating.
I've also had it freeze up and require rebooting while searching for
points of interest etc. Some of the routes are pretty silly, and I wish there were more options to tweak the routing parameters.
Sometimes I have to reboot it a few times before it'll lock on a signal to figure out where it is.
If you get one, you'll appreciate the hacks described at:
http://bensbargains.netn.com/y8ypne
While you can also use it as a WinCE device many things don't
work as menu buttons are off the edge of the screen.
The USB interface does not allow direct access to the hard drive,
and while MS Active Sync does, that won't transfer a file bigger than 62Mb, nor can it back up data via usb, only to SD card.
Um I tried to post a tiny url, but the site name was changed to
bacon. This is weird, so I'll try again:

Grasshopper, you have been baconized!
To pass Ben's filters, you must spell out the name in a different way. It's a long story...
yes grasshopper, listen to what dragonfly has to say.
staples had $150 portable GPS
the 760 works OK..bacon is a bit slow but for the price...hard to go wrong
Anyone have any thoughts on those GPS Units you can hook up to your laptop? Obviously not ultra portable but aparently much cheaper?
Works well. you still get a warrenty with the unit. Good price
Go with the only reliable brand, GARMIN!
Ben's a sensor Nazi.
