Sales tax and shipping reduces the value of the deal. LG Philips is one of the three biggest LCD manufacturers (with Sharp & Samsung) outside of taiwan.

#4 - References to deals on BF are retarded. They happen once a year and you have to camp out for it and hope to be one of the first few. I have a life and don't camp out to save a few bucks.

walmart also offers a very cheap warranty protection plan, one of the perks for buying from walmart.

#11, I think the 1200:1 is contrast ratio, not resolution. And it is only dynamic contrast ratio, so it won't be that high all the times.
Samsung is pioneering the effort for its new generation of LED backlit LCD panels to turn off the individual LEDs according to the video so as to enhance the contrast ratio further. If that works well, we will see much higher contrast ratio in the near future and much darker blackness in LCD TV.

#12, the only problem I have with the technology is the cost. For example, a 40" LED backlit Samsung is 3K. Yes, it is 120hz, 500,000:1 contrast ratio and high color gamut but the price is unbelievable. However, if I was going to spend 2K for a 120hz sets I would probably just blow the extra 1k and get the best with the LED lighting.

My friend is buying one, well see how great they are.

#13, I am sure the prices of all these new technologies will come down in time. They are so new now certainly prices are rather high. With all these new development, I think the plasma camp may be more concerned about future competition.
I am not the kind of people who would pay premium and buy the latest technology. Smile

#10, i dont get it.. get the 2year warranty for 1299? so it'd be 1298 + 1299? so u would pay more for the warranty than the tv itself?

Why buy this large a TV for $300 more when the 42" has the better contrast ratio. Cotsco has the lowest price and they extend the warranty to 2 years, plus if you are not satisfied you can return the TV after 90 days. Worth the $50 membership.
