This is a good deal considering that Newegg has the same unit without a hard drive for about the same money. Basically here you're getting the media player with a free 640GB hard drive.

The question, however, is whether or not it is a good product. I was going to purchase one until I read the reviews on Newegg. One guy there had a bunch of negative (and valid-sounding) points about it.

Did the same thing. It seems like a waste of money.

The link does not mention a hard drive being included.

what do you guys expect? A hard drive is already $50 at least. Those guys in newegg's reviews obviously did not read specification before buying it.

I looks like a drive in not included so you might a well ger a WDTV HD player. It has 1080p output not 1080i. WD and user groups are updating the firmware for new features and file formats. One nice thing about this Masscool is that it has a eSATA connection the WD doesn't

I've read the reviews on newegg and it seems that people are trying to put a 2TB drive in it. I thought the spec said nothing bigger than 1TB. I was thinking about ripping my kid's dvd onto it so I'll never have to change DVD again.

Anyone tried this in lieu of a HTPC? I've got a HTPC but am considering getting something smaller and quieter.

The more HTPC alternatives I try the more I conclude that it's just better to have a HTPC.

Let's see. $80. Netflix is $9 per month so that would last you about 8 months *with content* and also last longer than this junk.

Popcorn Hour FTW! There's another Network Media Tank manufacturer called eGreat. Their players are cheaper than PCH but functionally the same (same Syabas NMT based FW)

#6, I could have sworn I saw something saying that this included a 640GB hard drive. The "Click Here" link doesn't work right now so I browsed Mwave's site for the unit and sure enough, no hard drive is mentioned. I'm pretty sure I didn't pull the hard drive out of my arse, but Mwave's site apparently begs to differ. Oh well.

I will have to look into the WD unit as people seem to be saying good things about it.

I love my Popcorn Hour! It is an awesome unit. I was unsure if I was overpaying when I bought it, but I am very satisfied with it now.
