in actuality the warranty period for maxtor drives is infinite since you will be RMA-ing it before 3yrs, thus renewing the warranty on your RMAd drive

No- when you return for replacement they only give you the original warranty period. The rma is associated with the s/n in a database. Wish you were right.
can you set up raid with 2 different (brand) hard drives of same capacity?
#6, I think you can. I think the only stipulation with raid-ing drives was, you are only going to get the amount of space as the smaller of the two, so getting two drives of the same size would maximize the raid configuration.

If Maxtor drives are made by Seagate, why would I want to buy a Maxtor with a 3 year warranty instead of a Seagate with a 5 year warranty?? The prices are, or will be the same.
