not bad...
no 5 year warranty? I'll pass
yea reviews arent that great now that i look again...
Um I'm afraid you are misinformed. Seagate bought out Maxtor so the Maxtor drives have a 3 year warranty and some have a 5 year like Seagate does. here is an example of this drive's specs including a FIVE year warranty:
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=b9df99f4fa74c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US
#4 can you please post some sort of a link from the Seagate site that verifies your information? It is not uncommon for companies that carry multiple brands to have different warranties on each brand. Thanks!
What can I use for filler to make it over $100?
Hitachi and WD are clearly way better.
No a seagate drive is way better.
No, you guys are all wrong! My old Quantum drive is way, way better
Bigfoot!
#4 - The link you posted is a SEAGATE branded drive. I believe you are wrong about the Maxtor branded drive warranties and you should not mibaconnform people here without proof.
Take for instance GM. GM sells many cars under different brands (and I don't mean car models, I mean brand families here, like Chevy, Saab, Cadillac, etc.). Not all of them have the same warranty. In fact, they vary wildly from one another.
If you are absolutely positive that Seagate has officially changed the warranties on the Maxtor branded drives, please show us some proof.
To answer your question about filler items, I often find that recordable or rewritable DVD's are a good choice. Alternatively you can click on the vendor list and see what else Ben has posted on sale at NewEgg if you want to maximize your dollars.
Good luck.
#11 I posted the link. It's a 5 year warranty. Maxtor drives are rebranded so if you take off the M in the model number you will see. I also called seagate sales to confirm so your beliefs are misguided.
Get the WD drive for $90. It's a better drive and only $10 more.
This is funny!
Back to old days, I remember when most people believed Quantum is better than Maxtor and then Maxtor bought Quantum! And then people start saying Maxtor is better than Seagate and then Seagate bought Maxtor! And I guess this will go on...
I always liked Western Digital better because they always had fastest drives. But now these days it is hard to say that because each day each company comes with something better than the others.
But still I like Western Digital because they are in this business for a long time and I always had a good expreince with WD hard drives.
The point is most people are kind of loyal to the brands they like (even if they deny it!) and to be honest none of these drives are bad. 3 or 5 years warranty doesn't really matter. All of these drives can crash anytime.
5 years warrant doesn't mean it is a better hard drive specially since most of the times you change your hard drive for more space after 2 or 3 years.
So now we have to wait and see when Hitachi will buy Seagate and...
How about someone posting a filler item instead of bitching? Here is what I have found:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16800999011
Because someone else did something more practical, and showed people how to find filler items...besides...a filler item would ideally not be something that 95% of the people here have no use for, and would most likely just throw it away.
Yes, because we all know how honest sales people are. I had someone at Viewsonic tell me, when I had a problem with my CRT, that I should just buy their brand-new LCD screen, because Vista won't support CRT's.
If Seagate was offering a 5-year waranty on the Maxtor-branded drives, why wouldn't they report it ANYWHERE!!! Your link only shows that Seagate has a 5-year on the Seagate braded drive. It doesn't say anywhere about a Maxtor drive hading the same, nor can I find ANY link about this Maxtor drive having a 5-year...anywhere.
Cyberwolf was right-on with his car company analogy. Some of these cars even use the same switchgear or engines, and yet, their waranties vary tremendously.
Awesome filler item, #15. 4 out of 6 reviews rate it at one star, and one rates it at 3 stars. That sounds like something to spend money on.
who gives a burp about a 2 year difference in warranty? your porn collection will be obsolete in 3 years, much less 5 years.
but seriously...If the data is THAT valuable on your 500 GB hard drive... I sure as hell hope you're not a douche and are backing up that data.
as for a 5 year warranty.... I've said before:
5 year warranty is a joke. 500GB of storage in 5 years will be compared to a 60GB of storage today.
Direct quote from the Seagate site for this series drive...
"Maxtor® DiamondMax® 21 drives ... are designed for reliability and backed by a 3-year warranty."
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/diamondmax/diamondmax_21/
in 5 yrs, the girls in your porn collection will be of legal age
