Thanks #19, and thanks #16 for backing me up.
#18, a 2 year difference makes a HUGE difference in the life of a hard drive. Go study some MBTF charts. An extra 2 years is an extra 66% on the warranty -- I'd hesitate to call it "almost double", but it is close.
Also, most people know that if a drive is no longer available the company backing it provides you with a comparable alternative drive that IS available. I've had 10gb and 20gb 2.5" drives replaced with 60gb and 80gb 2.5" drives because 10's and 20's were no longer available. So if they want to replace my 500gb drive with a 1TB in 4 or 5 years, so be it. 500gb or 1TB is still a massive amount of data storage and will still be worth powering a few years from now, at least IMHO.
If you don't care about the extra warranty, then so be it. But don't mislead others with your opinion like #4 did with his flat-out incorrect information about the warranty length.
