I'm not an expert on cheap baconnaise but I seem to remember someone going on about how thses are great for the price and the parts can even be exchanged with better known name brand models.

Go buy the Duratrax Vendetta at Tower (or on eBay for even less). Miles beyond this package.

Fun and an OK price. Other brands are about $100 to $150 for just about the same thing.
These were sold by Radio Shack under the Pro-Pulse brand for about $150 list, on sale for $100, and closed out for $50 (if you can still find them).
This is big step up from toy class RC, but still not full "Hobby class" unless you start adding upgrades.
Lots of parts swap (but not all) with the Associated RC18 series.
Refubs can be found on Ebay for about $50 (even a better deal, if you don't mind a white box)
(Can't find them at Heartland, but that might have been RS closeouts or refurbs)
