MeritLine.com has the Meritline IDE 2.5" USB 2.0 Aluminum HDD External Enclosure for $7 with free shipping. Just install a spare 2.5" IDE Hard Drive to make it accessible via a USB connection. [BizRate]

1st in again. I do not know why people post this, so i will do it anyway. These are ok to use, but I would make sure that this will not break when it falls. The plastic ones are cheap.

#1, you are saying that an Aluminum HDD External Enclosure is made of plastic? That does not make much sense. On the other hand, with SATA 2.5" drives becoming the main stream, the IDE drives are becoming more expensive /gb. Something to consider when you invest something like this.

CrappyLine sent me an LED light or two DoA, and their flash memory multireaders died within 15 uses and 2 months. They sell cheap red-commie $hit, and I would suggest you give them a wide pass, like the slimey con-company they are. Please understand that I hold them in the lowest regard; may their officers die of comsumption, and their mailing labels jam their printers.

If you're upgrading a HDD, or are buying a new laptop want to move a lot of data from the old PC to the new one, throwing the old hard drive into this and plugging it into the new PC is a darn quick and easy way to make it work... for 7 bucks, it's cheaper than many other options.

That being said, as #4 points out, most of what meritline sells is just random CRAP, with the emphasis strongly on CRAP. I would not rely on most things they sell for regular use, this being no exception. I wouldn't consider a substitute for a unit from WD or a major brand.

I bought 2.5" SATA enclosure from Meritline. It didn't work, LED just turned on. You can buy much better USB LED for $7.

I bought a silver one of these and it works fine for occasional use. I don't do a lot of heavy file transfers, and I don't leave it connected, so I can't vouch for it's continued reliability. But it was cheap, and it did work.

They say your mileage may vary, and I'm getting about 45 mpg average in my prius. It runs off your hopes and dreams of having a manly car.

I have bought a few of these and like them better than other cases and they plug and plat fine. Meritline is kinda crappy but so is your car.

For $7, this is a good risk buy.
