Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit OEM for $87 shipped after rebate [Exp 5/31]
Am I alone in hating the Win 7 ad campaign? It implies that MS was taking recommendations on how to improve Windows but only asked people that could only offer the vaguest recommendations ("make it simpler"). What about people that had useful critiques of XP and Vista? Oh well, MS has always been terrible at advertising I suppose.
That said, I've been using 7 Home Premium for about 6 months and I like it.
Windows 7 beta was a great OS. Lean and fast. Than all the beta tester whiners started asking for extra features. MS, not wanting to risk another Vista, bowed down and crammed Windows 7 with every bloated feature people asked for. What they got was Vista 2. Windows 7 beta was great. Windows 7 final is crap.
Call me when it gets down to a reasonable level, say 29 bucks.
I had a similar experience with Infiniti. I called them and told them they should put steering wheels in all their cars. And voila! I invented Infiniti cars.
I agree with #3, I paid $34ea for the 3 copies I have. I'd like to have a few more.
#3 - I think I can dig up an old Windows98 CD you can have for $29.
@#3 - I'll pay you $29 to take my Vista dvd's.
There's a hack for enabling multi-user terminal server on Win 7 HP. XP mode functionality can be had with Virtualbox for free. It works great on my W7HP64 install. Search for "concurrent user terminal services hack"
Thanks #8.
Windows 7=suck.
I'm sorry I passed up their 3-license family pack offer.
Yeah their commercials are stupid. Windows 7 was my idea. F**k off.
#11, I agree with you. At pre-release, Microsoft was selling 7 for very little compared to now, including the Family pack. Wish I had jumped on board.
I like Win7. There, I said it.
But I find it annoying that the home version turns off features like a useful backup for the home version. Won't home users want backup too?
Good thing my MSDN sub gets me all the copies of the Enterprise version I need!
Not sure where I read this but is it true that if you install this version and then upgrade your CPU the OS won't load? Also, it's $89 at my local Fry's with no rebate hassle (http://cdn.travidia.com/rop-sub/29253449).
Windows 7 is solid. I recommend it to everyone. What will be interesting to see is how Mac OS steps up.
Win 7 student version $29 w/ 3 licenses.
Ask your cousin in high school for his school email.
Seconding #8, I got XP Pro for the XP mode, and it is inferior to Virtualbox in every way. You do have to find a Windows license somewhere, which you don't need to do with XP Mode however.
Vista was a nightmare. Windows 7 is solid.
#17, I think the $29 student pricing is long gone. Maybe $65 now as I recall.
