Dunno about XP mode, but you can certainly choose classic view and kill the features that come with 7 to make it pretty close to XP.
XP mode is about being able to switch over and run programs that are not compatible with Win 7, not for its look and feel.
Or for those who don't need to upgrade an existing installation.
Get your nephew to use his school email and get it for $30.

Ya, XP mode is for compatibility and has nothing to do with appearance. This is a good deal if you dont have someone in collage.

VERY useful.
XP mode really isn't useful for most people. Maybe if you're a corporation that has some ancient software that you can't live without it might make sense.
It's nice for those old win95 games that didn't run in Vista or 7...
I find it irritating that MS has these different price points for the same operating system, differing mostly on locked out features.
My husband got a chance to upgrade to 7 from Vista. He loves it.
