Newegg has the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit OEM for $140 - $20 off with coupon code EMCNDNE233 [Exp 6/6] = $120 with free shipping. Microsoft's newest Operating System also includes Windows XP mode for full backwards compatibility.
IMO, Win8 is no substitute for Win7. Not if you want a *real* desktop anyway. As businesses in particular reject Win8, I expect the price of Win7 to actually go UP! In fact, I’m willing to bet MS returns to a traditional release of Windows desktop w/ Win9, or Win10 at the latest. If you thought WinXP had a long shelf life, just wait until you see how long MS ends up having to support Win7. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 2025, or even longer. Not unless they do what they should have done all along and break the tablet OS out as a new and separate product. Cracks me up -- they continue to call it Windows, but the irony is, the m-etro interface doesn't use "windows".
I just tried Windows 8 and hated it. The lack of a start button ruined everything. Removing that single feature made the desktop mode intolerable. 8 is made for tablets, plain and simple. The metro interface doesn't work for desktop use.
Have to agree with #2, MS will be supporting 7 for a long time and maybe XP longer unless voice controlled Star Trek like computers become the norm. A desktop environment is best for business use.
Ever try working on an Excel or Calc spreadsheet on an iPad or Android tablet? It can be done but can be done three times faster on a desktop environment no matter the OS.
This is still a fair price for 7 Pro OEM; a good price would be less than $90.
Has anybody fully developed brain-wave control yet? Voice control just does not make sense in the public or noisy area. We will be using Window 7 for a while until Windows 9 comes out.
With Windows 8 coming, this shouldn't be more than about $29.

rodeo cowboy. Click the check-box to turn the stupid interface off then if you hate it so much.
Keyboard and mouse is faster than voice control, at least for me.
