I love XP for now, will wait for windows 7 SP3 to come, then will install.
Dont like buggy ones
Ahh, c'mon now guys. Winn doesn't suck THAT bad. It'll be a great choice right around the time Mickeysoft is trying to force us to upgrade to their next generation, even more convoluted steaming pile. Just like Winxp was better than Vista but eventually you'll have to move on because eventual lack of hardware & software support matters more than the crap you put up with in subsequent OS versions... just like those who had to abandon Win2k.
Drink no wine (nor OS) before it's time.
If you know any college students that don't want to upgrade here's a deal which MS should be offering for EVERYONE!!!!

A different variation on #23's post is for Windows 7 Professional. It's at http://www.techhead.org/ .
It's $39.99 but you get a dvd (not just a download). It's open to students (both K-12 and College) and staff and faculity of many schools in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. If you qualify, or have school age children, it's a good deal.
#8 sounds likes you have hardware problems not software.
Ignore #24's post. The digital river link is actually direct from Microsoft. There are no "variations".
You can also get a DVD at digital river, and the Pro version for the same price.
These OEM "System Builder" editions are forever tied to the PC you originally install them on I believe.
#20 you baconeer abit is out of business, no more official BIOS updates
i like it been using it for weeks hated vista so jump on win. 7 boot leg updates fine bit of memory hog nearly 1gb. with only 20 gb. on drive.

I still think that "Windows 2000 Professional" was a good, lean, mean OS. Of course, you had to keep it caged behind a firewall and run a decent virus scanner on it so you wouldn't get a virus by browsing or via e-mail, but that's life these days.
Windows XP Home and Pro haven't been too bad for me and have much better wireless LAN support.
I've managed to skip Vista entirely, but I've been running Windows 7 RC on my "basement" computer (down in the electronics dungeon with PC guts splattered about) without any problems so far.
I won't upgrade any PCs from WinXP to Win7...I'll wait until I have to buy a new PC and am forced to get Win7 on it.
Even though Abit is out of business, they kept a skeleton crew doing a few things like updating bios after their manufacturing arm ceased production. For example just the other day I hunted down a Sept. '08 bios for an IP5-E that wasn't posted on their FTP 'site. IIRC there's a thread with a link to many of these bios at the following link, though I don't know if these added more fixes than E0 stepping CPU support or not, http://forums.hexus.net/abit-care-hexus/149415-bios-updatebaconntel-e0-stepping.html
Win2k wasn't necessarily less secure than XP for most practical purposes, if you just look at point of entry meaning use an alternate email and browser.
Windows 7 Beta was good. Then everyone started asking for added features. Not wanting another Vista, Microsoft tried to please everyone. Now Windows 7 is a bloated and slow OS worse than Vista.
Have to wait for manufacturers to release non os specific drivers.
