Do people really buy this before the first SP?
Can 64bit version still be able to work with 32 bit office I have. And all other programs which are mostly 32bit versions. Or will I have to buy all prorgams in 64 bit version.
Thanks for your inputs.
Hit or miss. Most say the 32 bit apps run slower on 64 bit os.
I'll pick this up when it's in the bargain bin for $5.00.
Its gotta be better than Vista.
Yes, your 32 bit office apps will work fine with Win7 64 bit.
I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on an intel i5 and it's really really smooth. I've tried most versions of windows and this one imo is the best one. No issues with drivers or 32-bit applications. I previously had vista ultimate 32-bit and moving to 7 is well worth it in terms of performance and appearance.
I agree moving away from Vista is probably the best thing. However, moving away from XP is questionable since this version is still too new to be certain.
Fast, slick, clean, cool. Much better then Vista. Running this on a Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop and a Dell Latitude D830 flawlessly.
If no one bought this before the first service pack, there would be no one to find bugs and there wouldn't be a service pack. And you're a paranoid douche.
#8 - I've been on Vista for a couple years and Windows 7 now for about 6 months and I have to say both definitely beat XP. Vista & Windows 7 do require more/updated hardware to get the full benefit, but if you have it, you won't want to go back to the dark ages of XP.
When I've used coworkers computers who have XP, I feel like I'm tripping over hurdles and back using an antiquated OS - mostly due to the lack of the quick searching and the inferior windows management. Vista has also been very stable on my 4 year old Dell laptop (much more than XP). Windows 7 RC (pre-release) has been a little less stable, but nothing drastic and this is based on a pre-release version.
One thing you will notice (or regret) is the re-organization of the Control Panel screens. Pre-Vista, things were actually a bit easier to manage. Now things that were conveniently in one place are split into several places. However, the actual options/functions have improved, it's really the "management" and re-org that's a negative - once you get used to it though, it's not a baconbreaker.
As for Windows 7 over Vista, it's all improvement especially the new taskbar.
Hope this helps.
7 is a vast improvement over vista...even the beta kicked vista's butt!
#4 - If you only have $5, why not attend one of the free MS Conferences where they give you a free copy of Windows 7. You can use the $5 for parking.
Someone actually said windows was running flawlessly?
#10 spoken like a true mindless Bill Gates guinea pig.
#14 - My Vista/7 install on a 4 year old laptop has noticeably less problems than my <1 year old iMac running Leopard when it comes to stability, bugs, backup, etc. That's pretty impressive esp since the laptop is going in and out of sleep mode (not reboots) and being transported around several times a day.
Nothing is flawless.. but I think it's fair to say that with the right hardware, it's as stable as any other OS. Now-a-days, I've found that instability tends to be more based on what you are doing and what apps you are running vs. what OS is running.
#13 - Even better they could use the $5 for a happy meal after their mommy picks them up from the MS conference.
What is the toy at McDougals this week?
If you are going Windows 7 go with the 64 bit version. The next version of Windows will be 64 bit only.
Someone actually believes the Apple ads?
If Apple was at slick at business as they are at advertising they would be a better player in the game. And sorry I'm not going to pay 3x the price for hardware to save myself the occasional reboot.
