Compared to an ipod Classic 120GB:
-Zune has a 3.2-inch screen, while iPod Classic has a 2.5-inch screen.
-Both support music, video, pictures, podcasts, and games.
-Zune has wireless capability, which means it lets you find and purchase new tracks from its online store from wireless hotspots.
-Zune has FM radio, and you can tag a song you've listened to and also purchase it wirelessly.
-Zune can be synced wirelessly to your PC.
-Both have 320×240 resolution screens, and have touch-sensitive input devices (the ZunePad and the Clickwheel).
-iPod Classic is available in black and white; Zune 120 is available only in black.
-iPod Classic has longer battery life.
-Most users prefer the interface of the Zune.

The FM radio and 3.2" screen would make this a very easy choice for me, especially since I don't rely on itunes, in fact I can't stand itunes.

If you get this, check out the new Zune Pass. $15/month for unlimited downloads and you get 10 mp3/month that you get to keep forever.

If you want a legal collection, this is the way to go. Who would have thought Microsoft would get it right?

I bought two Zune 30's last year. One a refurb (Black at $99) and one a new one (Brown at $90). Love them. I really only use the black one and it's never had an issue. Works great and I love the free software updates. Great interface. I got a cheap, cool case to protect it (Converse case) and it's still in immaculate condition especially considering it's a refurb. I also got some great additions (speaker system, dock) that were incredible deals. I'd jump all over this if I didn't have those. Good looking deal.

Good point #10. Were it still $9.99 a month with the new changes I'd jump all over that Zune pass.

    Archos > Zen > ipod > zune > sansa

That's about how it works out.

There are disadvantages and advantages of each. Nobody has a bigger screen than the zen vision and you can easily get 2 full 2hr movies out of it on a full charge even after the 2-3 years I've owned mine. However, zen has a pitifully horrible interface..bacon's just crappy. It does play anything and you can drop-in a 120GB hard drive or replace the one in it, so eh.

Archos has somewhat of a dinky display, the way it is positioned is odd.

Zune/ipod have shitty displays but zune is easier for windows users and ipod has the almighty wheel of easiness.

On every one of them interface can be trumped by using winamp or gtkpod on linux, so I'd consider interface a moot issue. Thus I'd go with an Archos or a Creative really, and I'd get it used, not new. Craigslist or something.

I have the original 30 and it still works great. They keep updating my old Zune with the new features so I have no plans to replace it anytime soon. The software has improved a bunch as well.

I have the 30gb, bought 2 last year from woot.com and received a free accesory pack with them. I gave the black one to my 19 year old nephew who uses it every day. I kept the white, He uses his everyday to comute to work and school and at night, he is always hock to it. i use my when traveling and at night, we never had problems with them and my still looks new since it is kept in a case with a screen protector, my nephews looks good but with a few scratches here and there since he carries it without a case. Neither one had problems with them even though they are refurbish ones. I might get this one and sell my since I will get over $100 for it. The 30gb still sell for a lot on e-bay. These things rock, durable, great battery life, free updates, and the radio feature is a big + for me.
Dell do charge tax to applicable states. So the 325 in amazon price might work for people that will have to pay the tax.
