i agree with 20, ipods are way overrated. this zune at a fraction of the price of an iPod is well worth the money.

I just got one. If I don't like it, I'll just give it as a gift for Xmas.

a good price, but the zune is just too proprietary.

I don't use subscription services, I have my own music. and I have no problem sending people music without wifi.

Just keep in mind that you won't necessarily be getting a pristine unit. I got in on the last Woot Zune Refurb deal a few weeks ago. I chose a black model. It came with a pretty scratched up screen. I mean a deep scratch and scuffing that was definitely noticeable. Now, in Woot's defense, they don't know what you're getting because all of these are in sealed boxes from Microsoft. Woot has RMA'd the last one for me, and I'm waiting for credit as I write this.

So, YMMV on getting a "like-new" model. Note that many people DID get pristine units during the last sale. I didn't. Dem's da breaks.

#47 - Zune plays MP3s quite nicely. Nothing proprietary about that. I've never purchased one song from any digital music provider - I just rip my own MP3s from my CDs, and dump them onto whatever player I have at the time.

I bought one a couple months ago too, Couldn't pass up a zune for a hundred bux. It failed to bring me away from my 30gb 5g iPod, but come the new firmware tomorrow, things might change... The thing that really peeves me is that you have to regedit to enable use as an external HD. The ipod is much more convenient being completely plug and play as an HD. A word of advice, if you are buying a player for watching Wide screen content, then the zune is for you. The screen looks way better than that of the 5g ipod, plus its cheaper. But if your only going to listen to music, and no radio, then you might be happier on the iPod bandwagon, neway thats my 2 cents.
oh one other thing, the battery life on the zune seems to be alot better than that of my ipod, for what its worth.

You can use it as a hd if you take 3 seconds to change the registry. I think they addressed this request in the new firmware.. but gotta wait til tomorrow to find out.
