Newegg has the refurbished Microsoft Zune 4GB Digital Media Player in black for $50 with free shipping. It sports a 1.8" LCD, and sports storage for up to 975 songs, 25,000 pictures, or 12 hours of video.

My wife has a Zune and seems to like it. The Zune software doesn't seem to be as big a hog as the iTunes stuff, but I would still prefer that it would only run when I want it too.

Not as much docking support as the iPod either.

Anyone out there who has purchased a reconditioned unit? Any problems with it?

Supposedly the new Zune will use an OLED screen. But it's going to be a lot more expensive than this! My in-laws all have Zunes; They are great for PC users since you don't have to install that bloated app known as iTunes Smile (don't get me wrong, it's an awesome app, it just runs like molasses... even on fast PCs)

I hate how itunes takes over ALL your file associations without first asking. It also installs that bloated piece of garbage, and ironically named Quicktime movie player.

Luckily there are itunes alternatives out there. I got my 5.5 Ipod hacked with Rockbox for music and only use Apple firmware for video. I load music like I would on any external USB drive and use sharepod for loading video. I think you might still need itunes for podcosts but there's probably a way around that as well.

I purchased one of these two weeks ago when Newegg had the same deal.

It looked brand new, not a scratch on it. The back of the Zune had a removable sticker say it was refurbished, and the box also said refurbished on it.

Last time they were also offering the Zune premium headphones as an add-on for $10 (normally $30, with good reviews).

I got the 8gb refurb version of this from Newegg and it works great. Haven't had any issues and it was in great condition.
