These ase a DISCONTINUED ITEM, so why buy these? You'll never know if you can add to the system later. NO SUB included means an additional cost. These DO NEED a sub! Also, be aware that these are NOT good for H/T duty. The speakers spread sound all over, so no localization is possible because of the lens design. Matching center speaker presents a problem with placement. Not a good deal at all. Pass
Worthless, expensive tinny speakers.
Thanks #1. So it looks like a Sound Bar is the best I can do with my space restrictions.
I've had these with a matching Mirage sub and I think they're great. Sound much better than my Yamaha soundbar, which I also use with a sub. The diffusion of sound from these speakers works well to set up a sound stage that seems to spread beyond my walls. Sound is not as well localized as direct radiating speakers, but still pretty good. Anyway, sound often can be localized to direct radiating speakers themselves. The Mirage speakers sound like they disappear into your walls, even when you're only a few feet away. Great for rooms where you cannot space all 5 speakers evenly around you, and they quadruple the "sweet spot" seating area of most systems.
Also, having a center channel that is exactly the same as the rest of your speakers is the easiest way to create a unified sound field. Placement is easy because the speakers and not direct radiating and can be flipped upside down when place more than 6' off the ground.
#3: That is the WORST buy you could make. A "Soundbar" unit will only give the emulation of a H/T setup. The "science" of an all-in-one unit is a dream that companys are pushing. It simply doesn't work. No "bar" can replace the sound or localization a set of 6 or 7 (5+sub or 6+sub) speakers can reproduce. A better alternative for you would be to find a company that specializes in H/T speakers, and purchase a set that fits your size and needs. Try TheSpeakerCompany.com site. They have a good selection and reasonable prices on true H/T setups. Also try Fluance.com if your pockets are a little deeper.
#4: A "Sweet Spot" is not (exactly) what you want in a H/T setup. You want to be able to see the action on the screen, and have the sound sinc up to it, not be floating around it. More importantly, a timbre matched center is what's needed, not an exact match (size wise) to your fronts. There's more out of the center than most people realize. For music only, these with a sub would be a good choice. Not for H/T though.
Many thanks #5 I was just going to spend $500 on the Yamaha 1100 but checked again here first. I will take your advice and check out the site you mentioned tonight. Thanks again.
