is this worth it? 250 with no sub? anyone?

Again with this crap. These have been DISCONTUED for a long time. Not worth buying for the money. They must have a shitload of these that never sold, and now are trying to unload them. This set won't work (they will, but will sound shitty) in a H/T setup because of the 360 degree sound pattern. Plus, the center channel is the same as the rest, posing a placement problem. This set will not give you pinpoint sound that's needed for movie watching. Floating sound is not what you want when the action is moving around. Also, this setup needs a good, low hitting sub to round out the small sat's high sound. I place these on the same level as those "sound-bars" that say they give you surround sound from a single speaker. Worthless. Save your money and buy a true H/T setup designed for that purpose for about the same price.

Friend of mine was all excited about this setup and we went to Magnolia to listen to it in comparison with a few other satellite/sub sets. This was a few years ago so it was not discontinued and much more expensive. My friend settled on these, which admittedly were marginally better than the others we listened to (sub-$1000 sets from the usual brands Magnolia carries). I was completely unimpressed by all of them, but I can't even begin to imagine how tinny they will sound without a sub. I think the question is not really "are they worth $250" but more "can you get a decent 5 channel setup for $250". In my opinion, the answer is a resounding NO.
For this kind of budget, your best bet is to find some cool used kit from ebay or craigslist.

#3: You can get a great set of H/T speakers from companys like Fluance or TSC (TheSpeakerCompany) for the cost of these. They also have the same warranty on their speakers. I would NEVER buy from Flebay. Never know what you'll recieve for your money. Either one of those companys above get good reviews for their products, and value for your money. As a plus, you're getting NEW speakers, not someone's used set.

Disagree with some posts above and think these sound great with a paired subwoofer. They don't provide the pinpoint staging of direct radiating speakers, but are perfectly fine for home theater applications and the sound stage seems to expand far beyong the walls of a small room. Unlike direct radiating speakers, you are never aware of the individual speakers when using the Nanosat system. And many would say a perfectly identical center channel speaker is the way to go. Best of all is you don't get a single sweet spot for sitting and watching a movie to fight over. A truly envoloping and seamless soundstage for such a tiny system.

#4 has obviously never listened to these. They are GREAT speakers that originally cost over $1K and will beat the crap out of any Bose system. Obviously audio quality is a personal preference and he is right that The Speaker Company had a fantastic deal, but that is dead now so I think this is the next best option. Plus these are much smaller and more stylish than the plain old black boxes that TSC sells.

Just check the reviews on Amzn or Crutchfield. You DEFINITELY need a sub with this but a $100 Polk was posted a couple days ago that would work great or Frys sells a $150 Velodyne sub that will rock your lame arse for the money. Mirage speakers will not disappoint and if I had to buy again I would snap these up. (BTW, so what if they are discontinued? When was the last evolutionary change in speaker technology? Like 1970 I think.)

If anyone is interested Costco has the Energy Take 5 Classic for $400. The Take 5 got good reviews when they were released about 10 years ago.

Energy, Mirage & Jamo - all of them are own by the same company. They were buy out by their competitor-Klipsch Group. Eventhough the're Canadian speaker manufacturers they're now belong to Klipsch who seem to dictate the price since Klipsch couldn't compete with them on price point/value Klipsch just bought them out to eliminate competitions.

Before the buyouts in 2006 of API (BIG CANDIAN Conglomerate of speaker company included the above companies and Athena...), these Canadian name brands offer much more value for the price.

I love my nanosat setup and paid quite a bit more than this a few years back, although it came with a sub as well. But everyone has their own preference and the best way to know if these are good for you or not are to go and listen to them yourself. You are paying almost a quarter of what these things were worth a few years back so take that into consideration. The build quality and materials used are exceptional.

To all above who dissagree with my statement: I take no offense that you have different opinions than myself but: These are listed as H/T speakers. When was the last time you went to the movies? The speakers are a direct radiating setup behind the screen. Fronts, center, and sub, come directly at you when you're facing the screen. The sound doesn't float around you, it comes straight at you, the way it was designed to do. The side and rear surrounds take care of the rest. If the action is in the front left, that's where I want to hear it from, not from the front left-ish.That being said, I have a friend who has this set for H/T, and I'm not impressed with the sound for that purpose. They do sound sweet for music, but why have 3 just sitting there doing nothing. Just my 2 pennies thrown in to the mix.

Obviously you need a sub for home theater OR music listening. these speakers have 2.75 inch "woofer" with a response of 20Hz to 110kHz according to the Features tab (under details it's listed as mid-range, with a response of 110Hz-20kHz!)

Personally i have the Infinity Primus theater pack which i got for a STEAL at CompUSA for $150 a few years back (the current Theater Pack II is just visually updated, $400 on Vann's). For the price range i have recommended friends to Infinity Primus series- they are the "bargain" Infinity's, but are powerful, affordable, and very similar to their higher end stuff
