Cab anyone tell me what makes this set "3D Ready"?
This might be a deal if it came with a six pack of the DLP bulbs that will burn out every year or two.
If you hook up a 3D bluray player (200$+) and insert 3D bluray movie (35$+) and put on your 3D Glasses (150$+)..
and your good to go..
I have an ancient (15 years) Mitsubishi 52" projection TV which has never needed a bulb replacement
Completely different TV that doesn't use a bulb, it uses 3 color guns.
#3 So, does that mean any TV is 3D Ready?
Additionally, I've never heard any DLP owners complain about the picture performance of these units. Sure, they're not as trendy or convenient as flat panels but price to size and performance ratio seems to be compelling.
How dim is that screen #4? Or did you even notice over time?
#6 what planet do you live on where you have never heard DLP owners complain? You're not looking very hard. Stick your head back in the sand.
#8
I am proud DLP owner of a 56" Samsung set for 4 years now.
Blows away any LCD I have seen and yet to see a LED that will justify spending the money...I see no picture difference except for brightness levels.
DLP have excellent black levels (contrast levels) and many people prefer them over LCDs because of this.
LCDs will be bright..bacon looks like a overlay sometimes when watching movies and the black levels arent black but with a white tint to them to make them brighter.
Plus #6 says "price to size and performance ratio seems to be compelling." which is correct on.
So go do some research on black levels and then come back and talk smack and while your at it GDIF!!!
Also a DLP Owner "65, and a "55 LCD owner. In all "honesty" the LCD may be a tiny bit better TV, both share same res. When I compare (sitting over 10 feet away) I would say overall the are so close its not really an issue. The DLP has one negative, the WHITE screens, anything pure white (Xbox, and video games, hardley ever in a Movie or TV show) are wierd, they are sparkley? I'm sure it has to do with the screen being some type of glass bead type thing.
IF i had to do it all over it would be easy for me, I would just get DLP as its so much cheaper (like 1/3rd the price) and honestly looks as good to me. its much lighter (my 65 is like half the weight of my 55) Size used to be an Issue, my DLP is 8 inchs deep.. my LCD is 4(with mounting and such behind it)
unless your some "freak" who uses microscopes to anylize, have unlimited money I would take a Look at DLP.. there is a reason they dont set them side by side with LCD/Plazma tv's (and if they do, make sure they have them adjusted right). Best Buy and Walmart both screw up settings on cheaper stuyff to make it look worse then more expensive stuff. Best buy will put tv's on lower input settings (seen um do it after you change them).
All the above is opinion only.. I like to be a bit frugal, you got the money.. get the TV you want..
incidently read up on LCD half life (at least i can replace a bulb on mine when it gets darker, you get to get a new tv if its LCD).
No split screen no buy.

Good points...This TV is very attractive at this price.
But my Samsung DLP is holding up really nice and will own it till it dies.
Plus I like the "gaming mode" setting for my XBOX 360.
Really brings out the colors of the game and I think boosts the refresh or something...
#10 - You are one of the few people that see the 'raindow effect'. Most people don't, consider yourself unlucky.
The only other drawback to rear projection TVs like this (I own a 63" one - Samsung LED DLP so no bulbs needed) is off-axis viewing. The image is considerably dimmer when viewed from the side or above/below.
You will not see any smearing or flicker that is common with flat panels. Also, even though this thing will need to sit on something, it is actually quite light. It weighs around 60-80 pounds and is easily moved with two people (two people needed due to the bulky size).
The key advantage to HDTV/monitors of this size is that you will actually be able to see 1080p images from where you sit. Guess what, the 46" TV that you sit 8' from might as well be 720p because you aren't close enough to see the detail.
I noticed motion blur on these TVs especially watching sports.
Good info guys.
