I would have thought that by now everyone knows Monster products are cr@p and the company is about as greedy as they come. Take a look at Monster's budget: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/monster-monsters.php Actual production is a very slim sliver in the pie chart with nearly 75% of the budget going to marketing and 25% going to legal fees for the following and more:
Even if you don't care about Monster's strong arm tactics, their products really do suck. When I'm not doing computer service I am a sound technician and I have numerous musician friends with Monster products that have cr@pped out on them within months of purchase. How friggin hard is it to manufacture an instrument cable with quarter inch tip/ring connectors that lasts more than a few months? Other manufacturers have no problem doing so. And I have yet to find anything special about their other WAY OVERPRICED products - many of which I've dissected after they have broken just to see what was inside.
too much money for a surge protector

Clean, clean power! nom.
No kidding.. I paid about the same amount for my APC BE650R Battery Backup (Which also had 8 slots, 4 of which were surge protection only..)
