JR.com has the Motorola SB6121 SURFboard Broadband Cable Modem for $85 - $10 off with coupon code TURKEY10 = $75 with free shipping. Features DOCSIS 3.0 Security compatibility, maximum theoretical speeds of 171.537 Mbps, and has RJ-45 ethernet and 75ohm F-connector interfaces.
while the SB6121 is a good modem and all, it only has up to 4 channel bonding on the downstream. only a couple of big cities like dallas, tx have more (6) then 4 channel bonding on the downstream so far. for the average joe-blow cable user the SB6121 will work just fine, but not be as future proof as the SB6141.
the SB6141 is the most popular and is only a few dollars more on ebay at $89 (new) and has up to 8 channel bonding on the downstream and maximum down stream of 300Mbps.
the SB6580 is the SB6141 with a 4-port wireless router. it is said that people are experiencing trouble as with port opening it is either all or no ports open. also, with firmware upgrades from the ISP people are not being able to bypass the built in router to attach an external router. although you can attach an external router to a port of the built in router, it defeats the purpose of having a built in router in the first place. people are also experiencing wireless dropouts.
keep in mind with these new channel bonding modems you will get a more solid down and up strem speeds, *BUT* channel bonding also allows the ISP to regulate the speeds much better. thus, if you were getting that extra 5-7Mbps faster then the tier that you are paying for, channel bonding will stop that.
I don't really think much about future proofing consumer network equipment, it'll die at the end of its expected lifespan before I'll be ready to pay the premium for 300Mbps broadband.
