Newegg has the Motorola SB6121 SURFboard Broadband Cable Modem for $85 - $5 off with coupon code EMCYTZT2155 [Exp 9/2] = $80 with free shipping. Features DOCSIS 3.0 Security compatibility, maximum theoretical speeds of 171.537 Mbps, and has RJ-45 ethernet and 75ohm F-connector interfaces.
I have Comcast - just got this running from my Docsis 2.0 modem. It is worth the upgrade. Basically doubled my throughput. No need to call either. You connect it wait a few then try to browse to a page. All automated through comcast...
^^^ Don't see the need for this unless you have an upgraded Internet plan. The average Comcast download speed is around 17Mbps. Personally I'm around 25 Mbps download with Comcast.
I also have Comcast.....with this modem and the fastest cable package availabe....I run 19 devices across this baby on three branches and Ooma also.....This doubles your speed vs DOCSIS 2.0 I made a few "additional" tweaks but am running at about 2.5 Gps ....That is awesome for cable.....Worth the money.....Double your speed for a one time charge.....and if you are renting from Comcast at $5 a month....Pays for itself at some point.....
The thing is, it's nice to have a backup modem and router in case your current ones fail and if you're going to get one it might as well be the latest standard as cable internet access is bound to get faster in your region even on the lowest tier.
On the other hand you could save quite a bit of money buying another Docsis 2 or used on eBay/etc.
^ Right, bought both of my modems on Ebay for around $15. Tested the spare so I know it works incase the other dies.
^^ Wow, I didn't know Comcast could deliver 2.5 GPS. I'm running around four devices one of which is also Ooma. Using the stardard Internet service we have streamed video and used phone at the same time with no issues. So for now standard cable and Docsis 2 are all I need.

The Costco store I was in had this for $74.00. I was looking at them but for now I am getting my modem provided for free so I will wait.
