Refurbs generally aren't a great deal because 1) Used/returned items, 2) Warranty is cut short ~15 days - 60 days depending on company from 1 year if new, 3) Product is generally outdated. It's not bad for the price though but it is outdated in specs esp. when the newer Android tablet models have started to come out now even with higher prices but more updated specs.
If you can live with outdated specs or the shorter warranty, then it's pretty good.
Bot some refurbed Apple products in the past and it's lasted well. But it also depends on the product.
The new Nexus sems good be too mobile for my taste. $250 for an item with no HDMI and no SD storage seems to me like a Mercedez Benz car with junk yard rims & wheels. What's the point of having a quad core & newer video display if you can't play Netflix on your large screen HD tv.
Not such a great deal anymore with the Google Nexus 7 at $250 (for the 16GB version)

10" vs 7" is still a big difference.
