I bought a refurbished Xoom from Woot a few weeks back, and have been very happy with it.
If you do go for this, check out BestBuy this week for accessories. The standard cover is $20 vs $35 normally, and the standard dock with charger is $25 vs $50 normally. If you really want to spend money on accessories, the dock with charger and HD speakers is "only" $70, normally $130 or so.
I've had my Xoom (3G/4G version) since launch and have been really happy with it. While it is thicker and heavier than say the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 I still think it is the best Android Tab out on the market. Actually having a micro usb and micro hdmi port as opposed to needing the Samsung adapter to use either one of those functions is a plus as well as having an SD slot to expand the memory by up to 32 GB (after 4G update of course). I do like the Galaxy Tab 10.1's speaker placement better, but even with the Xoom's being on the back, they are high quality for a Tab. Also this guy has a 5 MP back camera whereas the Galaxy only has a 3 MP.
Asus Transformer is another high quality Android Tablet. Big thing for me is it doesn't have the 4G LTE capability. Also only has a 1.2 MP front camera instead of 2 MP, but that's a small difference.
I am glad nobody here includes "Apps" as a category for realistic assessment. Who really cares about apps ? Apps are over-rated. All I care for is a very fast high-resolution tablet that is based on open-standards and has a lot of eye candy.
And, if I need to make use of an app ... I can always pick up my dumb iPad2 to do that dirty work.
No wonder Android tablets are outselling the iPad2. Even schools, businesses and health-care facilities are clamoring for Android tablets instead of those dumb iPad tablets. Look at all those refurbished iPad2 s on Ebay ! Their prices have been dropping since release.
On a side note, my uncle invested in an ultra-expensive Smart TV that can access the internet. His neighborhood does not yet have broadband internet. Who needs broadband internet anyways. Its way over-rated. His TV has a lot of great internet-capable widgets that will look really cool when he finally gets internet connectivity. By the time he gets connected, his TV would have lost significant value. So what? Value is overrated.

I have an Asus Transformer, and I picked it because I like the screen much better. It has microSD and mini HDMI on it as well.

I now refer to him as "Uncle Smart".
