For those actually interested in the unit newegg often has open box specials on these units that run around $90. GigE, Atom, CF Slot, WOL, and room enough for 2 internal drives ( one with adapter ). One heck of a household server.

35 watts is terrible for this system. It should use like 15 but the chipset is such a power hog. I have an old pIII 800 coppermine that performs almost identically to this and uses about the same wattage on the system level. Why people even buy these crap atom machines amazes me.

#3, they buy it for small size, cheap (HTPC cases can cost this much), and because you can't find new PIII coppermine systems for sale plus the old small ones were PC Chips junk. Not good for HTPC but a router, fileserver, etc should be fine.

#6 you are confused. I have a p733 ibm system with 2 hard drives (though one is a notebook drive), and an agp video card.

When not running X windows, it uses 33-36 watts.
Running X it uses 36-44 watts, depending on hard drive access.
That is measured at the AC outlet, with the ibm power supply.

This is also a brand new system, not one that has been around for 15+ years. As we all know electronics won't last forever, and you get a warranty with this little guy. Also I could see the form factor being a huge consideration for some people, myself included.
