remember that atari game freeway, where you had to cross a chicken across the freeway. this game is nothing like that.
do yourself a favor and spend the extra cash for a Garmin or a TomTom. These off brand GPS units may be real inexpensive, but they usually have slow and inaccurate mapping software along with outdated maps. I have had a TomTom for 18 months now and have never had a problem with it.
I have had a Navigon 2000 for couple of months. The only drawback is that it takes a full couple minutes, the first time you switch it on a day, to boot up and get the satellite signal. Other than that, it is an amazing device for the price. It has everything I needed from a GPS - text-to-speech, speed limit (including warnings), day/night light adjustment and Exit signs. The windshield holder is kind of awkward, but it is okay if you get used to it.. I would certainly recommend this...
I disagree totally. I've had both Garmin and Navigon. The navigons are superior and they start offering pro features (text to speech, intersection lane details, etc.) at a lower price point. (See some of my earlier reviews for more 411)
#4 is @ #2
and to #3, my Garmin took just as long to boot up as my Navigon (if not slightly longer.)
I grab a GPS whenever I go on vacation and then sell it when I get home, so I've used a few...
That sounds real cost effective, uncool.
#5 - That's good to know! I never used a Garmin.
I used Garmin before and now use the Navigon 7200. The map in my Garmin is out-dated and it cost $75 to update one map. When I purchased the Garmin couple years back, they said they have Asia map. Since I travel back to Asia from time to time and under the assumption I may be able to use the Garmin in US and as well as in Asia. Turn out, Garmin only had map for Singapore, not anywhere else in Asia. It was a big disappointment and I considered it was a false advertisement. Under Garmin's theory having one city in Asia can consider they cover Asia, I can claim that I am Galaxy traveler because I travel within Planter Earth from time to time.
In term of the map, the Navigon's map is very accruate (at least in the area I am in) and also their map update is much cost effective than Garmin. FreshMap from Navigon cost me $30 for 3 years (12 updates) while Garmin demanded $75 for 1 update.
#8 - How did you get the FreshMap 3 year update for only $30?
does that come with a mp3 player?
We have a Navigon 2100, Garmin 660 and Magellan 3250. Like them all for different reasons. High/Low points of each:
Navigon - Gorgeous screen, cool Reality View, and free updates. Routhing a bit dumb at times (too many U-Turns).
Garmin - Best routing and immediate sat acquisition. Some stupid menus. Main screen can be confusing. Bluetooth doesn't like our Treos.
Magellan - Smoothest Text-to-Speech, quick, very smart menus with large mamory (it always seems to know the next letter or number). Bluetooth works fairly well but volume is low.
Have fun!
Garmin lock to satellite time varies. If one did not use it for a while, then somehow the locking time is longer (say minute or so - again it depends on other factor as well). However, if you have recently used it and switch it back on again, then the satellite connection is almost real time. It does not matter whether the unit is in the cradle or not. This is my observation. Maybe someone else can validate this as well.
