Staples.com has the Navigon 2100 Portable GPS Unit for $120 - $20 rebate + $0 shipping = $100 shipped. This GPS device has a 3.5" touch screen with Text-To-Speech capability. [BizRate]

Got one last Black Friday, very good GPS in such price range. It tells you which lane you should stay on which is not a common function from many other GPS. Its POI does not include many restaurants, shops or groceries but it will be fine as long as you plan your trip. The touch pad reacts slow, it takes about 1sec to react the next button so dont expect you can do fast address entery. The GPS comes with traffic info but it sucks anyway, dont know which company it uses but the update is very slow. Route calculation isn't very smart as it doesn't have intersection search (but this function may cost you another $150)

In general, $100 for a GPS with txt to speech, good reception, not bad interface, speed monitor, it actually runs no worse than many $300+ navigators. The only thing to complain is its POI database, but still its good enough for travellors (I just need more info for groceries and restaurants)I would say go for it if you are in short budget.

I also got mine on Black Friday. And one earlier this year for my dad. And another one today (for another relative). So obviously, I give it a thumbs up.

The Black Friday one (model 2100T) included free lifetime traffic (which can actually be annoying as even when you select 'ignore' it keeps reminding you). But I don't believe the regular Staples model (2100) includes traffic.

Also, each time I used a Staples $25 off $100 coupon, so for $75, this is a no brainer. Text to Speech is unusual at this price, and the 'Reality View' is decent.

My recommendation is to get a new $100 GPS every couple of years, rather than a high-end $300 GPS. This way, you get new maps and features, like text-to-speech, and a backup unit as well.

The intersection search is not documented well, but sometimes if you touch the grayed out section below the first street entry section, it will allow to you enter the second street as an intersection.

I've had both a Garmin 250w and a Navigon 2100 - I liked both of them just fine... but only used them for a couple weeks each. If I had to pick one, it'd be the Navigon. Much better lane info, text to speech at the right price, and better satellite acquisition time... also cheaper. I was NOT fond of the POI on either GPS, but I no longer expect good POI in this price range, or in any for that matter.
