Do yourself a favor and don't buy a Navigon. If you have previous experience with other GPS, you will 87.9% end up returning this. I highly recommend a Garmin.

Why would anybody spend $200 on a 3.5" GPS when the TomTom one is currently available for less than $90?

#3 Size is not the only factor determining the price. Navigon 5100 has real time traffic, bluetooth, etc.

#1 I guess I am in the 12.1% who keeps the Navigon. I have Navigon 7100 BTW.

#2 The version 1.2 has better POI (for example I can find Costco in POI). There are other updates too but I haven't notice much significant improvement.

BTW, Costco has the Navigon 7100 for $250 (with $50 rebate from manufactoring).

#6 definitely. Here is copy and paste of the review i posted a few weeks ago regarding this unit...

I happened to order this exact unit from costco last week. It just arrived today, and i took a test drive with this unit.
In summary, it was a BIG disappointment.
First of all, the buttons are so small that they provide you a stylus with this unit. Practically you don't have the luxury to pull out the stylus and press those tiny buttons if you are on the street.
Secondly, the operation of this unit is not intuitive at all. It has so many extra steps to accomplish a simple task like finding a POI.
Last but not least, this unit routes really weird. It prompted me with very weird path while there is a dead straight path. I tried to tweak if there is any setting that's causing this symptom, but trust me, it doesn't have that much routing option settings either. I never had that kind of routing with my Garmin Nuvi.

Tonight, I very much realized how Nuvi is superior to Navigon.
I am going to give it one more try on my commute to work tomorrow. If it fails again, i am going to go get a refund.

i guess i am also a part of that 12.1%
i got the 2100 with free lifetime traffic and have no complaints. i'm not sure what model #7 is talking about, but no stylus is required for mine and i don't think they have a model wuth a smaller screen.

#6 and #7, try a faster (I used SanDisk Extreme) SD card to see if that fixes or improve the lagging issue.

Due to small buttons on the Navigon, many users use the stylus pen to enter inputs (Those users must have large fingertips, I guess).

I think every unit has its pros and cons. The Navigon has enough pros for me to keep it.

The navigon 7100 is the latest greatest from navigon. It is by far the worst POS GPS I have ever used. Not intuitive, all relevant features are so buried in the menus, it takes forever to find a simple POI, like Costco, to return the damn thing. Absolutely no battery life whatsoever, it goes dead overnight. I took the first one back and got a replacement, did the firmware upgrades and the current map updates. Not much improvement. Garmin and even Magellan are hands down way better that the Navigons. Free traffic reports? Big deal when the functionality of the entire unit sucks hard. You Navigon fans are probably Mac users aren't you? Come on, admit it!

my experience is with the 2100. initially, it was a little slow but still hardy

#2 the update has given the maps tons more details. for me, it included all the roads inside of my school campus, which were just named a few months ago!

#6 the update makes it a lot less laggy, so i imagine that the 5100 will be blazing!

#7 my friend's house used to be routed to in a weird way, but the update now gives me the direct way. also, it would be a pain if you had to use the stylus while driving. this kind of got me to stop biting my nails Razz

#8 lifetime traffic updates are cool, but it took me a while to figure out how to only tell me about traffic that was on my route, and not just all around me.

#10 a faster SD card sounds like a good idea... i should try that!

overall, i prefer the menus on the mio gps devices more, but for the price and features, i enjoy the navigon 2100 and if i had the $200, i might give the 5100 a try.
