PCMicroStore has the Nero 9.4.17/26 Suite 2 Burn no playback (OEM) for $5.99 - $2.50 off with coupon code NERO [1000 uses] = $3.49 with free shipping. Create, rip, copy, burn, and edit music, video, photo and data, with autobackup and data-protection features.
^ that it burns discs like you'd expect, but it does not include the separate video playback software functionality like the full retail suite does. OEM means OEM, that it's licensed to be sold with optical drives and used on the system the drive is placed in.
The website has a review that says this software keeps popping up with messages trying to get you to upgrade to the full version. Is this true?
What it does (I have not used it recently so I mean what it did in the past) is puts shortcuts in the start menu folder, maybe on the desktop too (can't recall), which if you click them trying to run some feature not in the OEM version, will show a message that you need to buy the full version or something to that effect to be able to use that feature.
Simply delete the shortcuts for things that aren't supported.
There are plenty of free ones from the cnet download site with high ratings. Check those out first. I have those to be much better than my NERO software.
Nero tends to be more compatible with updates for newer drives. Regardless, if a less bloated freeware does what you need it is a good option, though OEM Nero avoids much of the bloat criticism by not installing all the stuff people seldom use.
