It is, in fact, pretty bloated, and does try to take over your computer. If you limit it to what it's good at (burning CDs and DVDs), it's quite good.

That having been said, in the past deals like this presage the imminent release of a new version. I got v.8 for $15 as a result of a deal I saw here, and about 2 weeks later v.9 came out.

Huge rebate kills the deal for me. I'm not gambling $55 to get a new version of Nero cheap. If they want to dump it, they can just cut the price.

Nero definitely has alot of crap. They should stick to their CD and DVD burning software and leave the rest alone.

Nero rocks, have you guys ever heard of "custom" install? It's a little radio button option upon install where you uncheck all of the useless software except for Nero Burning Rom and maybe Nero Vision if you want a nice 1 step way to make a DVD from an .avi, seems that custom install seems like that is a bit mass confusion here. try it. Use it. Love it.

Sorry #10, my experience has been a bit different, by the time I hit "allow" Nero 9 had already taken over my computer and I couldn't stop it. It just kept installing until I was out of disk space. Then it threatened me to buy a new hard drive. I keep telling it that the hard drive is on it's way, but I don't know if it believes me. Please save me UPS. I can only pray its not DOA, though it may already be too late for me then.

Same as several others have mentioned it attempts to take your system over. I haven't attempted to use it since 9 and although I really liked the early version its like trying to uninstall AOL it keeps coming back. Anyway I am with #12 I swapped to roxio and its worked nicely.

#10 you got it right.. "Custom Install" is the only way to install any program you want, Never let the disk takes control of your computer before is too late..

I'am sure alot of people see Custom Install, as meaning for Professional Tech, Don't let that fool you, Just click on CUSTOM. and check only the thing you want to install and leave the rest alone..

#14 you almost got it right.. Nero 6 was good. Nero 6.6 was the last good version too bad Vista cannot handle it, or I be using it..

Agree Nero for burning is fine; otherwise, no.
