I'm 1 for 3 with Netgear GbE switches. Bought two of the white plastic apple clone models, both failed from bad capacitors within 5 years. Both were revived by soldering in new capacitors.
One of their blue metal cased GbE hadn't failed but since I had already pulled a spare switch out of storage to take the place of another I was repairing, I went ahead and swapped the repaired one in place of the metal cased one and preemptively replaced its capacitors too. IIRC the metal ones have a lifetime warranty but the cost of replacement capacitors was less than it'd cost to ship it back to them when the time came, plus scheduled downtime always beats unanticipated downtime.
I've always had good luck with Netgear products so for the price I'll chance it. Always can use another network Switch for something.
