Frys.com has the refurbished Netgear WNR834B RangeMax NEXT Wireless Router with draft 802.11n support for $25 + $0 shipping = $25 shipped. A good price for a refurb, considering these sell new for $70 or more. [BizRate]

  • Complies with draft 802.11n, backwards compatible with 11b/g WiFi
  • Provides speeds up to 270Mbps [requires corresponding RangeMax Next adapter]
  • Ensures maximum performance and coverage with preset internal antennas

Walked into Fry's in San Diego (Aero Drive) and they have a ton of these on the shelf in plain brown Netgear boxes - but they're $29 (and no they won't price match to Frys.com). I'm running DD-WRT mini with the V2 version of the router. You can't run the MEGA version of DD-WRT since this only has 4MB of Flash RAM. But mini is fine - most people don't need the extra crap.

      DD-WRT options for this router

How do you flash back to the factory firmware after you flashed it with DD-WRT? Do you just go to firmware update in router web config and flash it with an original netgear firmware?

      from here

If your router is stuck in 'tftp only' mode (characterized by a constant TTL=100 ping response), you can rescue it by TFTPing the original Netgear firmware less the header file located HERE, which will flash your router back to Netgear's stock 022 North America firmware. This file is called wnr834bv022_na.bin

Don't buy Netgear refurbished products. Here's a mail I got from their support group:

      Dear Customer,

My name is Mohan and I am following up on your support case.

I do apologize to inform you that the product what you are having is a Refurbished product so that there won't be a serial number on the product. Also I am also sorry to inform you that NETGEAR doesn't provide replacement for refurbished products.

Thanks again for choosing NETGEAR. Have a great day!

      Sincerely,

      Mohan
