Meritline has the Network Cable Tester for $3 with free shipping. Tests RJ45 and RJ11 network cables for wrong connections, short circuits. Features a 9 LED status display and a detachable remote tester.
I got one of these and it works fine, the problem is the battery compartment doesn't properly fit the required 9 volt battery. You can wedge it in but it kind of stretches the case.
Also the instructions that come with it are as bad as you'd expect, it even lists the wrong battery size for the device and says its included.
I second #1's comment with addition that I had to break off a tab the holds the battery cover in place to install the battery. A little tape holds it in place, and now it works great (as great as a 3$ tester would work that is).

I bought one, too, and it doesn't appear to ever power down. I let it sit for several minutes and the LEDs kept flashing, so I removed the battery.
