Just get an Avermedia or, even better a Geovision DVR card and put in your computer. Then you can buy nicer cameras as you need them.
The cards have the recording software(firmware) built in and this keeps the load on the computer down.
ontheweb is right, the only way to do DVR properly is to mix and match components. Nobody needs night vision IR on every camera, yet will need it on at least one.
Take a look at this security site and you'll notice that the biggest selection range is the cameras, yet people keep selling these one-size-fits-all kits.
May as well get the system you will use if you're gonna buy a system at all.
