I use it everyday, it's fairly accurate. It's a really good exercising motivator. Works on the treadmill, too, and you don't have to use the Nike shoes: any "shoe wallet" will do. Only works with the nano.

#1, worth it. Anything that might motivate you to exercise or make it more fun should be considered. If you've already got an iPod nano, $20 is very little to spend to have more fun.

Awesome way to track your running data...company called marware makes a great case for it for 10 bucks so you don't need the 100 dollar shoes. Actually thought about buying a nano so i could use it.

If you haven't seen this widely reported news story on the hack that can use this device to spy on your location when using this device, here's a link. A lot of trouble to spy on somebody, but it can be done.

Instead of the shoe wallet (just google "shoe wallet" to find out what it is!) you may want to try the SwitchEasy holder. I bought one, it's pretty cheap and got delivered within a few days: http://www.switcheasy.com/

It will NOT work with a video iPod (I tried). It's only compatible with the nano. When you plug the receiver into the 5G iPod it displays the message "this accessory is not compatible with this model iPod".

i have one of these and it works in terms of motivation and keeping track of how far you've ran. You can check out nike's homepage to see what types of stuff you can do with it first before purchasing. I have an account with Nike online and it helps keep track of all of my runs within the past 6 months and how far I've ran. You can also create goals for yourself online such as Total runs per month, or total miles per week. It's really easy and fun to use.

And like everyone's mentioned, you don't need nikeplus shoes, but you do need a nano

Consumer reports claims it can give inaccurate info:
"What we found. When the testers moved at an even pace, the kit was extremely accurate, especially when we had it calibrated for their individual strides by having them cover a specific distance. But if you mix jogging and sprinting, the system can be less than 90 percent accurate for pace and distance. For someone running a mile in 6 minutes 30 seconds, the readout might say 7 minutes. The system was no more or less accurate with the special Nike+ shoes.

CR's take. The Nike + iPod Sport Kit is worth considering if you tend to run at an even pace and can use some motivation. Buying all the parts is expensive, but if you already have a Nano and sneakers, you can get away with spending about $40 for the kit plus a shoe wallet that will hold the sensor and attach to a sneaker lace. If you buy an armband for the Nano, be sure it lets you view the screen (ours didn't)."
