Don't know about the camera, but you can get either of the printers for 1/2 price, without having to buy a digital camera. The Polaroid printer is $60 before rebates, the HP is $100, both have a mail in rebate for 1/2 that amount, with no stipulations on buying a camera in order to qualify. The other 1/2 of the printer costs are covered by a seperate rebate for each, that requires the camera purchase.
if you use alkaline, of course it'll be burned through easily. these are meant to be used with NiMH AA and they last longer than most proprietary lithium based cameras. The downside is that NiMH is heavier than Lithium Ion batteries. There are also Lithium based AA available; while they last longer and is lighter, they are not rechargeable.
There are many advantages in using standard AA/AAA batteries, particularly when traveling. There is not enough standard battery cameras available, and these are one of the smallest, if not THE smallest available in the US market today.
