It's Nikon so it much automatically be good. (Tongue-in-cheek Wink )

Seriously now, it's actually a 28mm wide angle lens, so that's good to see in a non-Panasonic for once. Nikon's image processing in its Point'n Shoots are also good. Size is good at 3.5 x 2.1 x 0.9". The more disappointing aspects are the small 1/2.33" sensor and only 4x zoom (112mm equivalent 35mm so really equivalent to only a 3x reach for a non-wide angle Point'n Shoot).

So it's really about a matter of taste. If you're fine with only a 4x (3x equivalent long), then the wide angle and common Nikon processing will be good. While there are a lot of 3-5x zoom cameras cheaper, there are many with a 28mm wide like this one. But if you want more reach, consider something a little thicker, like the Panasonic TZ3/TZ5 within $25-50 each way, for 10x (28-280mm, although a few shortcomings of its own).

for an ultra compact, you cannot get both wide and zoom, but i still think wide is more useful, especially you want to shoot a group of people indoor, and if you need more zoom, just step forward...

I don't think most people realize how useful wide angle really is....both with point 'n shoots and video cameras.

Agreed, hence why I went dSLR last year. I wanted 24mm equiv wide angle, and actually picked up a 180 degree fisheye too.

I know Panasonic has a new model (LX series? can't remember) with a 25mm equiv wide angle (yes, below 28mm equiv).
