      FYI,

      D3000 = CCD
      D5000 = CMOS

      #3 - CCD is generally cheaper to manufacture, but lacks lower light sensitvity. CMOS is generally a bit more $$, but has a reputation for better (less) noise at lower light. Historically, CCD vs. CMOS was a major difference between Nikon (CCD) and Canon (CMOS). However, Nikon has switched over to CMOS architecture in the past year or two. The D5000, having a CMOS-based photochip, enjoys the sensitivity reputation of the CMOS architecture formerly reserved to Canon.

      #4 - Abes pays attention and plays fair with NY (and perhaps NJ) customers, because you are "local" and might consider suing their bait-and-switch a$s. If you are not in NY or NJ, and especially as you get further physically from those locations so it is more likely to be relatively exorbitant to maintain a suit, you will get crap service, pushy call-backs to buy unnecessary items, and aggressively rude treatment from Abes. Avoid Abes. But B&H Photo Video is awesome. The price break Abes gives over B&H is only helpful if you live in NY or NY, otherwise buy from B&H.

      I agree with #5. I've never had an issue with B&H. You pay a bit more, but they will treat you better.

      Pretty much all discount mailorder/warehouse stores are from the same background from the 70s and most came out of the east end of Canal Street originally. For a long stretch, most of them had a reputation for pulling bait and switch regardless of the clientele (even the locals). With that being said, they are a few honest ones around. B&H and Adorama are the only bigger ones that I would trust.

      I live in So. California and order things from Abe's on ocassion. NEVER had a problem with them yet! Yes, I've ordered camera's before. I may have ordered a Canon XT as the price was right. I don't get all the negative remarks??

      Why would you want the non-VR 55-200mm lenses with this camera? Without the vibration reduction, the lens is pretty close to useless.

      Ditto on the non-VR 55-200 lense. It should be non-VR for 18-55 and VR for the zoom.

      Just bought a 18-105mm VR lens from B&H for about $320. Great lens. See if you can upgrade to this or even the 18-200mm lens.

      Check out reviews for this company online. People have claimed this seller to not be honest.

      VR is overrated. i have the nonVR 55-200mm lens and dont miss VR at all. VR only helps when shooting at slower shutter speeds without a flash.
